20 years of experience in building lutes. Even before I did my diploma as a lute builder and conserver at the instrument building school of Milan, I had a strong interest in historical music instruments. After the diploma I moved to Hamburg where I have now worked for 20 years as a lute builder. I specialised in the reproduction and restoration of 13th to 18th century string instruments.
Along with my activities in the workshop, I also research and measure old instruments in museums and collections. These studies are a valuable opportunity for me to improve my understanding of historical manufacturing skills and construction techniques.
My passion for music and the interest in handicraft were the crucial motives for me to take up this occupation. The love, which I dedicate to the construction of instruments, becomes tangible when the lute is played. The knowledge that what I build does not remain passive, but becomes a means of expression for the creativity of others makes me proud of my work.
